In a movie year in which I’ve had to see both “Clown” and “Trash Fire,” the bar for worst of year is pretty low. Probably not the case either. Completely reasonable because everyone knows that Los Angeles is a relatively small community. This is one of those movies in which the main character is a perfectly round-edged sad sack who, after the precipitating incident of running into a high school crush, suddenly acquires an expertise in stalking. This is what you need to know about it. The film plays out very much like a traditional supernatural haunting movie, where mother and son must work together to overcome an evil entity in their midst. Holly and her imaginary construct of a friend, scoff at this because they know what it takes to kill, especially by lighter, and Seth is not a killer. Next, he steals various drugs from the vet’s office, which I’m sure they never count and he even tries one out on himself first by putting the longest needle I’ve ever seen way too deep in his arm and falling flat on his face. I found this mighty ironic coming from someone who most likely owns his own home and makes a tidy sum. But again, she turns the tides and snatches the knife from him and takes herself hostage by holding the knife to her own neck and demands that he let her out. But what fun would that be? Before we get started here, do I really have to say that the following will contain spoilers for this wonderful atrocity of a movie called: PET? The rank, idiotic implausibilities continue to mount, including Seth’s transformation from a wholly recessive personality into a kind of master of psychological manipulations. Shocked by what he finds, instead of immediately calling the police, he tries to break open the combination bicycle lock that stands between Holly and her freedom as she slings him some b.s. Pet is an American-Spanish psychological thriller film written by Jeremy Slater, directed by Carles Torrens, and starring Dominic Monaghan, Ksenia Solo, Jennette McCurdy, and Nathan Parsons. Sorry you enjoyed the movie. What is it? Although in this case, two preschoolers, a clinically brain dead accident victim and a hamster probably could have provided more than what we got. Holly slaps her way around Seth in a rage, and runs back into the bar where Eric lays him out with one punch. It would seem that Seth is a man of his word and he really is trying to help Holly. I believe Seth sums it all up nicely somewhere in the weak third act, “This is totally #uck@#!”. Still. The acting was anything but bad, especially Ksenia and Dominic. So let’s move past the style and focus on those components. Now our security guard is as big as a house and if he had just imagined the lock as something like a Twizzler he probably could have freed her with one bite but instead is overtaken when Seth bashes him over the head with a flashlight and stabs him a few times with a pen knife that barley breaks the skin and only infuriates the security guard who throws Seth across the room. The Creeds follow the same template as in the 1983 book and 1989 film. No, it’s a phone or television remote or something that won’t kill him and was supposed to be shocking and not what we expected but after an entire movie of things we shouldn’t have suspected, this has no affect at all and is about as cheap and cliché in a horror movie as jump scare from a lurking cat. Grab your bibles, folks, this could get religious. Here is the ending of Spilt explained Split movie’s focus on the 23 personalities of the protagonist leaves the audience bewildered. Don’t do that. I actually thought it was pretty good. This ending could easily be shot in a regular, more straightforward way and make the exact same point. Pretty caring friend, Or is she? The ending sucked. Perhaps by some hungry wild boar kept on the premises. But it doesn’t and only after a few tense moments when all seems to be lost for our hero, the air-conditioner noisily kicks on and even though it sounds nothing like what aroused the security man’s suspicion, being a trained expert and exceptionally lazy man, he is quickly convinced that this must be what he had heard and after helping Seth pull his heavy box back on to the wheels of the hand truck, he saunters back to his desk to continue working on his own coma and a Twinkie or three. We see several instances of her offing Los Angelinos for no apparent reason, my favorite being her setting a man on fire, all as Seth watches from the distance doing nothing at all. So now we know what he means when he says he wants to save her and if he can’t he might have to kill her. Ending / spoiler for Pet Sematary (1989), plus mistakes, quotes, trivia and more. In his pursuit of creepiness, Seth follows Holly all over the place and discovers that she is as well of an accomplished serial killer as he is a welder. New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast. Let's explain a few. That was close one, wasn’t it kids? In the scuffle, Holly has dropped the journal we’ve seen her writing in many times and Seth scoops it up off the floor along with himself and absconds with it. You would think a slash to the throat and all that blood gushing from the wound would certainly indicate his demise, but you would be wrong. She warns Seth of the evils of smoking obviously not recognizing him again and why should she, he’s only following her everywhere she goes. LOL. The concept for the movie was great but the movie wasn't well thought out and the acting sucked. The film premiered at South by Southwest on March 11, 2016 and was released to theaters on December 2, 2016 by Orion Pictures and Samuel Goldwyn Films This, of course would be our damsel in distress coming out of her own slumber. though, because if I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times, the only thing better than a great movie, is a really bad one. For Seth’s sake I hope so, but hey that’s just one of the many reasons why this movie made $70 dollars in box office receipts on it’s opening and closing night, (somewhere in the world) completely recouping it’s budget and still making a profit of $10. How someone survived a throat slashing that causes that much blood loss is beyond me. However, The Babadook 's ending has sparked a fair amount of discussion from fans and critics alike when … In the scene where Louis goes to dig up Gage's body, the grave is covered with dozens of white flowers. Including the actual nature of the relationship between Holly and her sassy-‘n-tatted roomie Claire (Jennette McCurdy). R/HORROR, known as Dreadit by our subscribers is the premier horror entertainment community on Reddit. The ending of Netflix's new Korean movie, The Call, left many viewers perplexed. The scene seemed quite excessive for such a lacy personality like Holly's, but let face it, everything beyond the title cards in this movie seems a little excessive. That is not the case here, however. It seemed so transparent to me especially Seth. I also found it in such bad taste that he would do this while holding the lethal injection in one hand and pointing the finger at our hero with the other. WARNING: Major spoilers for Pet Sematary Apart from altering Stephen King's original ending, the latest adaptation of Pet Sematary also increases the body count and resurrects some unexpected characters in the titular cursed graveyard. He also has skills in the kidnapping department as well for he breaks into Holly’s apartment with the ease of cat burglar and quickly subdues her. His building doesn’t take pets, Seth responds. With this, he looks her dead in the eye’s and says, “no you don’t.” In an angry and fearful move, Holly slaps the check on the counter and leaves the scene. It really can't be overstated just how impressive The Descent proved to be, standing as arguably one of the best horror films of its decade, and achieving both critical and commercial success. But these two don’t shine alone because the rest of the cast is just as bad. It is entertaining but not for the reasons, Carle Torrens, believed it would be. This guy, who really can’t act, basically calls him a coward looser for not having the stones to uproot his life, find a new apartment that allows and could accommodate a huge German Shepard on poor, poor pitiful Seth’s meager hourly rate. ... the film's re-imagined ending … After all, he loves her, and love does make us do the strangest things. Also, op - as some helpful CC, check your grammar and sentence structure. Want a job? You know a movie is bad when not even Google will take a little free advertising. But wait! No one appreciates Seth, it’s his curse. Seth by this point is transforming from timid and harmless to obsessed and intimidating and is ever so closer to to the full-fledged stalker he is trying so hard to be. It would seem that he has survived and is now Holly’s source of strength in this world and oddly enough Seth seems OK with all of this because love is a strong bond and it seems to be all he really needs as we watch faun upon holly like a loved starved zombie. How I wanted that poor dog to rip the Doctors face from his skull so he would not be able to speak another line of dialogue, for Seth’s sake, our sake and most importantly, the dogs. 2019’s Pet Sematary is a radical departure from that order of events, doubling down on an even more bleak ending. I found it quite enjoyable, myself. I just finished watching this movie. One night Seth show’s what a bad-ass he really is by throwing a couple of candy bars at a starving Holly but she somehow sweet talks him into an extra bag of chips from the vending machine upstairs. While Lithgow and 11-year-old Jeté Laurence were shooting their scene exploring the remains of the Pet Sematary, her … Every line is delivered with an irresolute confidence, much like high school drama student reading off a cue card and in a fair competition between the two, the high school drama student goes home with the Oscar every time. The strange, seemingly melancholic ending of 'Good Time' might seem confusing. Pet Sematary, an adaptation of King's 1983 novel of the same name, reanimates the classic horror story that was last explored on the big screen in a 1989 film … Now, it would seem that, Carles Torrens, the director of this mess has cast his entire movie with actors who haven’t the ability to act. In the final scene of the movie, we follow Holly to some storage facility, where we find Seth, locked in his own cage, looking like one of the undead who hasn’t had his proper meal of blood for quite some time. This movie starts off with great intentions that quickly landslides the moment anyone on camera opens their mouth. This is where they say the plot thickens. So enlightening in fact that he suddenly has a new mission in life. Terrible acting, bad direction, and a script that barley had potential, all makes for my most beloved thing in this world: A very Bad movie. Our female lead, Holly, is a former high school hottie that Seth runs into on a bus one afternoon. I think I enjoyed reading this more than watching it. Holly steps outside to have a cigarette and to write in her journal and who should step outside only moments later but Seth. 'Promising Young Woman' ending explained: Emerald Fennell breaks down the shocking end to Carey Mulligan film. Even the major spoiler that was revealed in the trailers didn't ruin certain creative liberties taken in the film's final act. Just kidding. In the wake of this disappointment, Seth goes home and begins searching for any and all information online about his new love interest. I agree, Dominic's acting was sub par to say the least. So, while out procuring her meal, our security guard fools us all and actually gets up from his desk and witnesses Seth emerging from an “Off Limits” area of the Shelter. I sometimes I write like I talk and I'm from Jersey so that's a problem right there. Eric looks a little confused by this, but I think that's just how he normally looks. It would seem that chivalry is alive and well in greater Los Angeles area. But this is not true because I've seen, Lost and the lord of the Rings trilogy, and although I despised the former with ever fiber, and disregard the latter as an elaborate puppet show, I somehow remember Monaghan being able to act slightly. Read his answers to our Movie Love Questionnaire here. Now our female lead/pet, Ksenia Solo, who I believe has been in a number of television productions also phones this one in. He was so much better in lost, but then again as I mentioned, he does have a heavy accent and hiding it may have been harder than anyone knows. Ending Explained is a recurring series in which we explore the finales, secrets, and themes of interesting movies and shows, both new and old. Is it a knife? But Holly isn’t as alone as we are first led to believe. And if there is any moral to taken away from this movie it would have to be that nothing ever turns out well for Creepy men, psychotic woman and German Shepard’s on death row. Believing that they now share some bond and Seth has committed the ultimate act of sacrifice for the love of Holly, she turns the tides on him by somehow talking him into cutting off two of his own fingers in a sort of dare. Yes I know. He has written for a host of other publications and resides in Brooklyn. Thanks I'm going to go over it again. If you're a bit confused by the final revelation at the ending of Jordan Peele's 'Us', let us explain what it might mean for the movie. Not to say I didn't like the movie though. Watch an exclusive deleted scene from 2019's Pet Sematary and discover the details behind Jud and Norma's heartbreaking story. What on earth has happened to Seth? After being let down so harshly at the diner, he goes home and starts looking for more information with the help of, Sleuth, of course. But things begin to boil for our Hobbit friend when a made for T.V. Oh, the humanity. It doesn't matter anyhow because this is one of those movies you have to see for yourself to really grasp just how monumentally horrible it really is so if you haven't seen it yet I'd stop here so the magic of this movie isn't ruined for you. In the sense that the latest movie adaptation, out April 5, ends hopelessly, it’s just like the book. But because we have these weird shots of rabbits taking over the screen, we focus more on the style than the actual components of the scene. I suppose that “Pet,” for me at least, completes a trifecta of sorts. Well that is until he turns his head so she can now see his face and asks if she liked the flowers, claiming that she looked like the White and Red roses kind of girl. The only real ending is him getting pulsed and joining the flock. that is supposed to accentuate her manipulative manor. He’s the kind of guy that couldn't score in whore-house with bag of hundred dollar bills and he knows this fact well and so does everyone around him. So now armed with a plethora of information on his girl a little reluctant advice from a Security guard at work, who by the way also hates Seth, he begins the unlikely transformation from shy hobbit with no backbone what-so-ever to determined evil genius. If you don't care either way, then press on. What a kidder, huh? Now the story has been penned by, Jeremy Slater, one of the authors of 2015’s complete and absolutely unnecessary, as well as, inferior remake of the Fantastic Four. He investigates and finds Holly tucked away in her little cage. Carey Mulligan stars in the movie … Seth gets so excited he goes full Anthony Perkins. Not Seth beacuse he’s not ready to give up just yet. He does this with the help of the fictitious search engine, SLEUTH. But it would seem that Seth is a natural when it comes to joining of metals. And that truth can be found in … But thankfully that was his one and only show stopping scene. In the fracas accompanying the beating, Holly loses her diary, which Seth absconds with. Any observations about men taking advantage of women (and vice versa) are surface-level. Sometime later, he follows Holly to a bar where her ex boyfriend works and pleads with him to stop sending her flowers, sighting that it is a nice gesture but completely inappropriate. Family will tell you only what you want will make you happy. Is he dead? I understand that making your name in a massive blockbuster fantasy franchise in which you play one of the lesser (but very likable!) He’s kind, caring and loves the animals a lot; when he has to assist in the destruction of a German Shepherd of whom he’s fond, the vet actually presses him about adopting the dog. Thank you for the comment, though. As he lunges toward Seth, Holly, in an unprecedented act, trips the fat man making him fall flat on his face and then coax’s Seth into bashing his skull in with a nearby cinderblock. Glenn Kenny was the chief film critic of Premiere magazine for almost half of its existence. Pet Sematary Ending Explained Gage in 1989 and Ellie in 2019 (Image: Paramount Pictures) The story that follows remains similar to the book, the … Now with her safely sleeping off a completely safe animal tranquilizer, Seth packages her up and somehow transports this huge box across town with aid of only a hand truck. The fat security guard is feeling overworked because Seth is now keeping such odd hours at the shelter and having to remind him to sign the log every time he shows up is starting to get cumbersome. Now sometimes it's hard to rag on a movie when I know damn well, I probably couldn't have done any better than what has already been presented in the final cut. Once again with the help of the great and powerful, Sleuth, he begins to scour the internet looking for welding equipment and components which he is suddenly able to afford on his $9.00 an hour salary. They discuss this in some depth in a conversation that should have a purpose but comes off sounding like Bizaro worlds version of Quentin Tarantino dialogue. This is one of the reasons I posted here so I can get feedback from strangers. After Seth visits her occasionally to bring her Big Kahuna burgers and water, which she refuses because I guess the rat was plenty to tamp down her appetite, she begins to hallucinate that her friend Claire (remember Claire) is with her and they enjoy some delusional chit chat until Seth lets her know that he sometimes hears this banter before entering the room and is very impressed with Holy’s ability to give her friend a real voice by using her own. Norman Bates, Hannibal Lecter, Tila Tequila, to name a few. Seth is your archetypal creepy, looser who’s working in a Los Angeles animal shelter. So I just finished watching this & since IMDb deleted their message boards I came on here to see what anyone had to say about this movie. At the end of Pieces of a Woman, the audience sees a blonde little girl climbing a giant apple tree.A powerful symbol in the movie, apple seeds represent Martha’s growth and grief processing. But the blood lust doesn’t end here. Shame on you, Doc! Your sense of humor is the best Lolol. (Maybe he has a really good credit score.) Back at his apartment, Seth begins vigorously reading Holly's memoirs and finds this new literary peephole to be very enlightening. This man has gone from Gomer Pyle to Lex Luther in a matter of days and I’m sure the fellows over at, Sleuth, should take some credit for this. for strong bloody violence, some grisly images, language and brief sexuality. He not only doesn’t get a date but ends up freaking Holy out when she tells him in the nicest way possible that she has a boyfriend. To put her mind at ease, because that’s that kind of guy Seth is, he tells her not to worry about the needle he is about ram into her because he tried it on himself first. So, a few slurred f-bombs from our pet and some terrible dialogue later, Seth tells Holly he is going to save her. Sci-fi movies are the best, but sci-fi movie endings can be really confusing, even if you were paying attention the entire time. Being the crafty evil genius Seth has become, he lets out a cough that will no doubt throw this security blood hound way off his trail and save his hide. Soon Seth is Googling like mad (the website he uses is a fake one called “Sleuth,” and good on Google for making their name hard to use in trashy movies like this one), visiting Holly’s place of work, and asking a surly and burly coworker, Nate (Da'Vone McDonald), how to talk to girls. 5/10. It could've been so much better. But what are we really talking about here? Hobbits presents a lot of where-do-we-go-from-here challenges for a performer. A master of metallurgy you might say because for his first time out he builds a pretty serious human sized cage with all the comforts of home including a rotating, lazy Susan type door for a bed pan to be inserted and removed easily with little mess. Alone, tired and frustrated, Holly takes out her anger by destroying a rat that was simply welcoming her to the neighborhood with the heel of her foot. And if a bad movie is something you relish as well then by all means see this movie because it will not let you down, otherwise this is one to avoid at all costs and should not be viewed by pregnant woman or children with high I.Q.’s. This makes me think that Mr. Torrens is either purposely directing this way or he just doesn’t give a crap. I can’t tell you the why of this because my brain began to shut down at this point as it will do on those occasions when it cannot process something so unbelievably stupefying. I just can't believe you thought the acting was good. He puts the cage in a super-restricted area of the shelter, kidnaps Holly, and, when she awakes in her underwear and in a cage, he tells her that he’s going to “save” her. Easiest explanation is that the two good endings - John Cusack saves the world with explosives, or he and his son leave the scene unharmed - were in Cusack's head. One of the most famous images in movies this decade is Cobb's (Leonardo DiCaprio) spinning top in the final scene of Inception, cutting to black before audiences could see if the movie's hero was in a dream or reality. There are subtle clues scattered throughout Inception that make the picture clearer, but this is another instance where moviegoers were paying attention to the wrong aspect. Pet, has taking me on a roller coaster of emotions that swell from WTF to My god they can’t be serious. Holly is understandingly shocked and appalled at this because she is in fact a daffodil girl and despises roses, especially those sent by Seth. I’m splitting the aces on that last comment because bad acting seems to be a main staple in all of his movies. The movie, directed with unbecoming relish by Carles Torrens from a script by Jeremy Slater (who wrote the disastrous 2015 “Fantastic Four,” which maybe made him bitter) sputters and pants its way to a kind of twist, one that’s genuinely misogynist on the one hand but also too cretinous to … He is neglecting his duties at work and receives a reprimand from another bad actor. That's O.K. version of a homicide detective shows up with some questions for Seth and after effectively lying and getting caught at every turn he is somehow allowed to leave, go home and even bring Holly more Big Kahuna burgers and believe it or not, the detective bothers him no more. That should really be all I need to say about that. One afternoon on a bus he sees a young woman—a girl he knew in high school, Holly (Ksenia Solo), and quite the beauty she is. Now, both having secretes, a sort of love/hate thing begins to bloom between the two. At home, she is greeted by her tatted up obnoxious roommate, Claire, who’s only concern for Holly is urging her to forgive her Ex-boyfriend, Eric, for his cheating ways and moving on with her life. But luckily for Seth, Holly knows just what to do and so Seth removes the man’s teeth as per Holly’s instructions, and with nothing more than a hacksaw, proceeds to cut the man up and then feed his remains to the dogs upstairs, all three hundred pounds of the man as well as his skeletal system, although we only see a couple of bowls with some sort of meat in them, it is strongly suggested that the rest of the fat man is being disposed of off camera. Check out Apartment 143 if you think I’m lying. Holly sprints off the bus and leaves a bewildered Seth behind who only then musters the courage to ask her out as the bus closes its doors and has moved on a full block. Move, the vet counters. With the help of a bit of movie magic, tiny Seth somehow manages to get a heavy gauged steel cage with a woman inside down several sets of stairs without making a noise or killing himself in the process. Any normal person would have just left and went back to their miserable lives. Seth, the terminally shy guy, who's been pissed on by everyone he's ever met, including the animal shelters house Veterinarian, who even chastises poor Seth for not stepping up to adopt a German Shepard that is about to be put down. And upon examining it, he discovers something that motivates him even further. Holly wakes up in this finely crafted cage that Seth spent his life savings to build. I need to have some one else proof read for me. After reading her journal and discovering that Holly has not only discovered that her best friend was doing the horizontal mambo with Eric (remember Eric) she is infuriated and decides to kill Claire by way of high speed car accident in an alleyway. Pet is a purely textual film – peel back its skin and you’ll find blood and sinew, but little to chew on. Perhaps a gun? Writer-director Emerald Fennell and stars Carey Mulligan and Bo Burnham share their thoughts on why the movie … What’s going on here? Director Neil Marshall's 2006 survival horror hit The Descent wowed audiences, but it actually comes complete with more than one ending. Seth had now come full circle going from creepy pushover, to expert welder, to Diabolical genius, all the way to a mind-numbing moron and lets her out where she repays his hospitality and affection by slashing his throat. But I'd like to say the difference between me and the folks producing trash like this is that I know better than to even try or, at the very least, I would hire a reputable hamster who can vouch for the preschoolers and the poor brain damaged fellow. Seth just about makes it when our security expert hears a strange garbled noise that startles him from his slumber. The movie is also replete with nasty shock effects (captivity really does a number on Holly’s manicure, for one thing) and stupendously banal dialogue: “Look, I’m not some psycho, okay?”; “You just have it all figured out, don’t you?”; and of course the inevitable “You don’t get it, do you?” The movie, directed with unbecoming relish by Carles Torrens from a script by Jeremy Slater (who wrote the disastrous 2015 “Fantastic Four,” which maybe made him bitter) sputters and pants its way to a kind of twist, one that’s genuinely misogynist on the one hand but also too cretinous to be authentically repellent.
